It’s been way too long since I shared a French song (with French lyrics + English translation) with you, so I’m going to fix this today! And I know I’ve already said it so many times but I’ll keep repeating it because it’s true and because it works.
Find some French songs you love (I have several on my blog) and sing along until you know it by heart and can do so without looking at the lyrics. Believe me it is such a good and rewarding feeling! You’ll feel super fancy!!
To properly learn a foreign language (trust me I’ve done it several times) you must use many different avenues. You can’t just go to school, or just have a private teacher, or just have one great app, or just join an immersion course, you need to do it all. And more. And all has to please your tastes otherwise you won’t do it.
I have shared so many songs with you over the years, yet, somehow, I never shared Yelle!
Pourquoi?
Yelle compte 3 albums:
2007: Pop Up
2011: Safari Disco Club
2014: Complètement Fou
Yelle est très populaire aux États-Unis and in fact I met her and saw her in concert in Seattle in 2011. She was
absolutely incredible on stage, so much love, joy, and energy, and when I told her afterwards, she said she felt
she had given a poor performance! Crazy girl! Love her!
And now here’s your song Que veux-tu? by Yelle – You’ll love the video and you’ll find the French lyrics along with
the English translation below. Enjoy!
Ils se croisent tous les jours comme un couple en amour – They cross each other every day like a couple in love
Elle lui sourit légèrement avec un tas d’arrières pensées – She faintly smiles at him with a lot of ulterior motives
Regarde toujours où il va, ce qu’il fait – Always looking where he’s going, what he’s doing
Dans son rétroviseur, mais elle n’a jamais tentée – In her rear-view mirror, but she’s never tried
Quand elle ne le voit pas un matin elle s’inquiète – She worries when she doesn’t see him in the morning
Comme si il lui appartenait un peu dans sa tête – As if he belonged to her a little bit in her mind
Elle n’a jamais ne serait-ce que baissé sa fenêtre – She’s never even lowered her window
Il ne s’en rend même pas compte à croire qu’il est bête – He doesn’t even realize you’d think he’s stupid
Que veux-tu, je suis folle de toi – What can I say, I’m crazy about you (Que veux-tu? can mean What do you want? or What can I say?)
Mon coeur ne bat plus quand je te vois – My heart no longer beats when I see you
Tu es beau, tu es grand, tu es fascinant – You are handsome, you are tall, you are fascinating
T’as des chevaux, des poneys, faisons des enfants – You have horses, ponies, let’s have children
Quelle issue y a-t-il pour moi? – What is the way for me?
Mon corps ne bouge plus quand j’entends ta voix – My body no longer moves when I hear your voice
Tu es chaud comme un gant autour de mes doigts – You are hot like a glove around my fingers
Mais ton regard de braise est tellement froid – But your sultry look is so cold
Jamais un simple hochement de tête – Never a simple nod
Comme un adolescent timide dans une fête – Like a shy teenager at a party
J’adore vraiment ton style, comment tu t’habilles – I really love your style, how to dress
Je ne suis pas sure que cette première phrase serait habile – I’m not sure this sentence would be clever
J’aimerais déjà te dire « Je t’aime » sans consonne ni voyelle – I’d already like to tell you “I love you” without consonants nor vowels
Les choses se feraient d’elles-même, j’ai la flamme et la flemme – Things would just happen by themselves, I have the flame and I’m lazy
Dis-moi qu’il n’y a personne d’autre, que c’est de ma faute – Tell me there is no one else, that it is my fault
Tu attends que je vienne – You’re waiting for me to come
J’aimerais déjà te dire « Je t’aime » sans consonne ni voyelle – I’d already like to tell you “I love you” without consonants nor vowels
Les choses se feraient d’elles-même, j’ai la flamme et la flemme – Things would just happen by themselves, I have the flame and I’m lazy
Dis-moi que tu es fort comme cet étalon noir à côté de ce chêne – Tell me you are as strong as this black stallion next to this oak tree
Charismatique, jean magnifique – Charismatic, magnificent jeans
Trèfles à quatre feuilles sous les chevaux au galop – Four-leaf clover under galloping horses
Cet homme qui pique, sa force hippique – This man who stings, his equestrian strength
A touché mon coeur dans sa chemise à carreaux – Has touched my heart in his plaid shirt

100% French Experience
What inspired me to create this French Immersion Course? C’est très simple: how best to improve your French conversation skills than by being in France, surrounded with French culture and French people who will ONLY speak French to you? Yet so many times I have heard visitors express their disappointment at not really being given the chance to practice their French. Why? Because more & more French people, especially in big cities, speak English fairly well and are just so excited to practice their new skills with you! This ends up being nice and comfortable for you but not so satisfying or helpful for improving your French speaking ability! So to fix this and make sure you have the most enjoyable, and at the same time profitable, French learning experience, I decided to create the perfect environment for you by organizing this hands-on French Immersion Course.
Daily French Classes & Activities
This is the reason why I have created this 7 DAY FULL FRENCH IMMERSION COURSE for you, filled with daily classes & enriching adventures with French people who will only speak French with you. No English! It’s amazing how much you can learn and retain in such a conducive atmosphere in as little as 7 days. Mornings will be dedicated to French language classes and afternoons will be filled with interesting activities such as: visiting local artists or entrepreneurs workshops, meeting with local wine makers and farmers, guided hike in nature, cooking class, painting class, cinema, & museum… all in French!

4- How to conjugate all the most common French verbs

The 150 audio files are composed of the 100 most popular French words and the 50 most common French phrases. They are recordings of my voice, speaking slowly enough so you can easily grasp every syllable. Your French language learning experience has never been so easy, fun, and fruitful. You can learn French online and benefit from the flexibility working at your own pace offers, while having me with you the whole time.
NB: if you are the proud owner of my previous French online course 600 WORDS, don’t worry, this is not a repeat as we are now exploring 1 letter words and up, whereas in 600 WORDS we began at 4 letter words and up.
Combine knowledge with confidence…
For you to be able to have a pleasant and efficient conversation with a French person, one thing is key… can you guess what it is? Confidence! How well do you think you will communicate in French if you don’t feel confident about your accent? If you are scared that people won’t understand you? Or even worse if you think someone might make fun of you? Without a minimum of confidence there is no room for communication. Yet if you feel confident, you can afford to make a few mistakes here and there because people will still understand you. What prevents a conversation from happening isn’t just a lack of knowledge, it’s also a lack of confidence. You need to have both to make it work, not to mention, to make it fun!
This course will teach you…
1- How to pronounce every letter of the alphabet
2- How to pronounce every digraph & trigraph
3- How to make every French sentence flow
4- How to pronounce the 100 most popular French words
5- How to pronounce the 50 most popular French phrases
6- How to avoid the pronunciation mistakes everyone makes
