Today I’m going to tell you how to easily compare and therefore express your opinion in French. And you know how opinionated the French are so you need this skill to converse with us!
Vous êtes prêt?
What do I mean by how to compare in French? Easy: more than, less than, as as.
1- More … than
I am more beautiful than you = Je suis plus belle que toi.
The magic formula is = plus + adjective + que
2- Less … than
I am less beautiful than you = Je suis moins belle que toi.
The magic formula is = moins + adjective + que
3- As … as
I am as beautiful as you = Je suis aussi belle que toi.
The magic formula is = aussi + adjective + que
How easy was that?
And you can do this with all adjectives! But… attention! When your adjective starts with a vowel, you need to make the liaison!
Par exemple
I am more intelligent than him = Je suis plus intelligente que lui
I am less intelligent than him = Je suis moins intelligente que lui
For both these sentences, you need to make a z sound between plus & intelligente and between moins & intelligente. Makes sense? If not, listen to me say it in the video above.
Of course you cannot do the liaison with aussi because it ends with a vowel. So you simply say:
I am as intelligent as him = Je suis aussi intelligente que lui.
Et voilà!
