Capella’s academic system is built on competency-based education (CBE). In this framework, each course includes a set Capella Assessment of clearly defined competencies—the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviors students must demonstrate to successfully complete the course. Rather than relying on traditional tests, Capella measures progress through carefully designed assessments that simulate tasks students will encounter in their field. Success isn’t based on memorization but on application and performance.
